Presentazione orale
Riassunto: The geographic variation in monoterpene composition was assessed for plants of rosemary, Rosmarinus officinalis L., from three Tuscanian (Alberese, Isle of Elba and Isle of Giglio) provenances and one Sardinian. Essential oil composition was investigated by enantioselective gas chromatography for the analysis of chiral and non chiral monoterpenes present in the foliar tissues. The leaf oil contained 1.8-cineole (37,93%), (+)-α-pinene (28,46%), (-)-α-pinene (6%) and camphene (5,15%) as major components. Analysis of monoterpenes revealed differentiation among the provenances and suggest three groupings, corresponding to the pooled Sardinian provenance and Isle of Giglio and the other individually separated provenances. Discussion is focused on the characterization of chemotypes as sources of commercially useful base products in agroindustry (preservatives, flavours and fragrances), cosmetics, perfumes, and herbalists.
